New Doctor Who

I should probably be blogging about Doctor Who, which has just finished its latest season. I have so much to say but I am having trouble organizing my thoughts. I will start with the 3 companions. Recently I saw complaints about the 3 companion thing not working, too many characters. Well, to be fair that is not true. Some fabulous Doctor Who has starred 3 companions. The problem with this attempt is that all 3 companions, plus the Doctor, were introduced at the same time. Where characterization has been the defining aspect of the new series (2005-) even to the point of diminishing storytelling (eyes on you Steven Moffat), we now have a jumble of character development. Personally I would like to know the new Doctor, but there is a flood of other input, and a new Sonic Screwdriver to distract. Along the same lines, having no familiar baddies and only lip-service paid to the past, I am left scrambling to connect this new series with what 50 years of Doctor Who has told me.
