The New Star Wars Light Saber Design

There has been open criticism of the new light saber design. that a high plasma cross-guard would be to dangerous to be used. (as cross-guards often contact a user's wrists and forearms.) Yet with all of the wild shenanigans employed by Jedi and Sith, they never ever strike themselves, so the new design is fine.

Furthermore, the argument is all the more ridiculous as the light saber as it originally was is heinously dangerous to the user, being so light weight that striking yourself would be common. I suggest that hitting yourself is somehow not possible at all.
